-はじめまして。自己紹介をお願いします。


はじめまして！ベルリンを拠点にDJ/Producerとして活動するイラン/ドイツ人のNamitoです。1989年に音楽活動をスタートして、96年に最初のEPをリリースしたよ。それ以降、世界中を飛び回ってプレイしている。今回の初来日は、とても楽しみだよ。


NAMITO

-[Greenhorn Records]のレーベルを始めたきっかけを教えてください。

[Greenhorn Records]は、イランの”緑色の運動”にインスピレーションを受けて始めたんだ。これは非暴力自由活動で、自分も何か貢献したいと思ったからさ。次 世代のイラン人アーティストがアートを提供できるプラットフォームを作りたいと考えたんだ。しかし、レーベルはイラン人だけに限定しているわけではない よ。

-休日の過ごし方を教えてください。

休日は、5歳の娘と過ごしている。とても楽しい時間だよ。テレビはほとんど観ないし、最近はFacebookの個人アカウントも止めたよ。

-音楽以外で趣味などがありますか？

最近ハマっているのは”iTunes U”だね。有名大学の様々な講義を観れるのは面白い。教育は大好きだよ。他には映画やサッカーの試合を楽しんでいるよ。

-どのような環境で楽曲の制作をしていますか？

アナログ機材を沢山持っているよ。Rolandの”System 100″や”Juno 106″などは、トラックにより深みを加えるために使っている。しかし、デジタル環境での制作が大好きだね。スタジオのメインは、Quad Core DuoのMac Pro。ソフトウェアは、Albeton Liveがお気に入りだが、Logic Pro で制作するのも好きだね。2つのUniversal Audio PCIカードを使っている。アナログとデジタルを両方使って制作するのが最高だね！

-楽曲制作について心がけている事があったら教えてください。

リスナーに覚えてもらえる音楽を作りたいんだ。それが印象的なメロディーや奇妙なサウンドであったり、とにかくリスナーがすぐに忘れてしまうような音楽は作りたくない。ループのトラックはとても興味深いけど、作るのは難しいね。

-今回、[Syetematic Recordings]からコラボレージョンシングルの「INVITES VOL.1 E.P.」にArgenis BritoとPier Bucci、Pig&Danとの作品が発売されましたが、3人のアーティストを選んだ理由と、各トラックのコンセプトがありましたら教えてください。

“Namito Invites Series”は、[Systematic Records]のMarc Romboyと考えたコンセプトなんだ。様々な人とコラボレーションする機会が増えたので、友達やプロデューサーと制作したコラボレーショントラックをリリースしようと思ったんだ。以前 Argenis Britoと Pier Bucciのスタジオは僕のスタジオの隣にあったから、お互いのスタジオに行き来してトラックを制作したんだ。Pig & Dan と僕は本当に気が合う仲間で、お互い既にDeep Dishのレーベル[Yoshitoshi]からもリリースしていたから、”Invites Series”での共作リリースは自然な流れだったね。

-注目しているアーティストはいますか？



Ardalan

素晴らしいアーティストが沢山いるけど、あえて選ぶならArdalanだ。彼はとてもフレッシュなサウンドを持っていて、音楽業界には珍しくとてもジェントルマンな人だよ。”Invites Series”に向けてトラック制作を近々やる予定だよ。

-今後のリリースや活動予定などを教えてください。

[Kling Klong Records]からNamito – “Flaming Youth”、[Greenhorn Records]からNamito and Pig & Dan – “Glory (+ Sasse Remix)”が今後リリース予定だ。また、”Subdealers featuring Blake Baxter and M.in”のリミックスも控えているよ。6月からはインドでのミニツアーを開始する。6月15日には、Marc Romboyとのライブセットをイギリスの”Glade Festival”で披露するよ。

-最後に今回、初来日になりますが日本のファンについてメッセージをお願いします。

実は2001年の10月に来日する予定だったんだ。しかし、9/11が起こって、イランのパスポートを持っている理由からビザを得られなかった。日本にはずっと訪れたかったから、その時はとてもがっかりしたよ。なので、今回の来日はとても楽しみにしているよ！ 呼んでくれてどうもありがとう！

- Hello. It’s nice to meet you. Could you tell us yourself and your backgrounds?

Hi there! Nice meeting you as well! My name is Namito. I am an Iranian-German DJ & producer based in Berlin. I started doing in 1989 and released my first EP 1996. Since then I have traveled all over the planet and am extremely happy to have my first appearance in Japan soon!



- What was the story behind to start Greenhorn Records?

[Greenhorn Records] was inspired by the Green Movement in Iran. It is a non-violent freedom movement and I felt like I had to contribute to it. The idea was to give young Iranian artists a platform to show their art. It is not only for Iranians, though.

- What do you do when you have day-off?

I have a 5 years old daughter that keeps me busy in my spare time. But I must admit I extremely enjoy my time with her. I hardly watch TV and recently deactivated my private Face book account.



- What do you enjoy beside music?

The most interesting thing I found out recently for myself is “i Tunes U” where you can watch lectures of all kinds of famous universities! I totally dig education! I also love movies and sometimes I enjoy big football games.

- What is the set up for your main studio?

We have a lot of analogue gears like the legendary System 100 by Roland or Juno 106 which are used to give the tracks the little extra depth. But I am a dedicated fan of digital work flows. The core of the studio is the Mac Pro Quad Core Duo which is a beast. On the software side Ableton Live is my favorite but I also love to work with Logic Pro which are supported by two Universal Audio PCI cards. It’s the combination of digital and analogue that I find totally sexy.

- Is there anything particular that you keep in mind when producing music?

When I make music I want the listener to remember the track. Be it a melody or a strange sound I don’t want to produce music that you forget the next moment. I find loop tracks totally fascinating, could never make one.

- You have recently released collaboration EP with Argenis Brito, Pier Bucci, and Pig&Dan on 「INVITES VOL.1 E.P.」 from [Systematic Recordings].
What was the reason that you chose them for these tracks and Are there any concepts behind each of tracks?

The Namito Invites Series is a concept that I created together with [Systematic Records] mastermind Marc Romboy. As we have intensified our cooperation on several levels we decided to release a series of tracks that I produced with friends and respected colleges. Back then Argenis and Pier had their studios next to mine so we just went from one room to the other and had a great time doing music. Pig & Dan and I are on the other hand kind of soul mates. We already had a release on [Yoshitoshi] so the step of making a track for the Invites Series came natural.

- Is there any artists that you keep an an eye on?

I think there are tons of talents out there but one hell of a producer I really like is Ardalan. He has a very fresh sound and unlike a lot of other people in the music biz is a gentle person on top. We are going to make a track for the Invites Series hopefully very soon.

- What is your future release or djing schedule?

The next releases are going to be “Namito – Flaming Youth” on [Kling Klong Records] and “Namito and Pig & Dan – Glory (+ Sasse Remix)” on [Greenhorn Records] as well as some remixes I did for Subdealers featuring Blake Baxter and M.in.

Beginning of June I will go to India for a small tour and on June 15th I will perform with Marc Romboy live at the Glade Festival in UK.



- And lastly, this will be your first time appearance in Japan. Any words for Japanese fans?

I actually was supposed to come and play in Japan in October 2001 but then 9/11 happened and I was refused a visa being an Iranian passport holder. The disappointment was huge as I always wanted to come and see Japan. So you can imagine how excited I am that I finally get to come over and see your fascinating country! So, Domo Arigato for inviting me!

- 2年ぶりの来日ですが、日本の印象やDJ以外で楽しみな事はありますか？

Marcel Knopf : 日本は愛しているよ。opusクルーのTTI達が素晴らしい日本のカルチャーを紹介してたくれたおかげだよ。DJプレイ以外では日本の美味しい食事が楽しみ。高尾山や清澄庭園などの自然も観たいね。後は、僕のブッキングエージェントのために猫カフェの写真を撮りたいよ。

-[Clap Your Hands]というレーベルを立ち上げましたがレーベルのコンセプト、またはレーベルとしての今後の展開を教えてください。

[Clap Your Hands]は、2年前に始めたレーベルだよ。ハウスミュージックに対してラフで近代的なアプローチをする為に作ったプラットフォームだ。レコードのジャケットからも解るように、オールドスクールでシンプルなスタイルが好き。次のリリースは、ベルリン出身の若手プロデューサーMichael KnopのEPが控えている。今回のリリースは、これまでの[Clap Your Hands]リリースの中でもフロアーキラーだ。テクノのサウンドにレーベルがシフトしているのがわかるよ。その後は[MRI & Nhow Nhow]からのEPリリースだ。MRIは僕がエレクトロニックミュージックを始めた当初のヒーロー的な存在だから、彼が僕のレーベルからリリースすることは光栄だよ。

-近年では、デジタル化が支流になるつつありPCでDJをする人が多くなっている中、あなたはアナログに対するこだわりを持っていますが、何故ですか？

近年では僕はCDを主にプレイしている。音楽に触れる感触が必要だからね。PCを眺めるのも嫌いだ。レコードに対しての情熱はあるから、CDよりもアナログレコードを回したいと思う。けど最近の多くのクラブはデジタル音源に最適なシステムに調整しているから、デジタルDJ向けなセットアップになっている。アナログを回す時でも、レコード針のコンディションが良くないことが多い。アナログDJとしての環境の不満から、”I Love Vinyl”の 野外イベントを毎夏オーガナイズしているんだ。アナログDJだけでレコードだけをプレイするんだ。

-楽曲制作で心掛けていることは?

フロアを意識して、楽しむこと。

-制作する際の機材環境を教えてください。

僕のホームスタジオは、パソコン、Logic、Native Komplete、あとはスピーカーだけ。制作のほとんどは、Dapaykと一緒に彼のスペースシップでやっているよ。 


-普段、休みの日は何をしていますか？または、趣味などありましたら教えてください。

Dexter、Californication、Wilfred などのアメリカのドラマを観るのが好きかな。ドラマのシリーズにハマっているよ。

-注目しているアーティストはいますか？

Scuba、Psyk、Gary Beck の最近のリリースは大好きだ。ドラムンベースでは、Spectrasoul や D-Bridge のトラックが素晴らしい。最近はiPodで Jay Z & Kanye West のアルバム 『Watching the Throne”』をよく聞いているよ。


- 今後のリリースや活動予定についてお聞かせください。

少し前に、Luna City Expressのリミックスを『Beatman EP』のデジタルボーナストラックとしてリリースしたよ。その後にアナログレコードのリクエストを受けて、 [all the black gold lovers]のサブレーベル[Blank]からリリースすることにしたんだ。今後の大きなプロジェクトは、”I Love Vinyl “の野外イベントだね。

- This will be your second visit to Japan. How is your impression on Japan and is there anything particular that you are looking forward to it beside DJ-ing?

Marcel :  I fell in love with Japan. The Opus guys around DJ TTI took really good care of me and introduced me properly to the Japanese culture. Beside DJ-ing I’m looking forward to your delicious food and I would like to see more of the countryside like maybe Mt. Takao, Kamakura area or the Kiyosumi Garden. I also have to take a picture of a real “Cat Coffee Shop” for my booking agent.


- Could you kindly explain the concept of your label, [Clap Your Hands]? Also, please tell us your label’s future plan.

I started [Clap Your Hands] 2 years ago to create a platform for a rough and modern approach to house. We also like to kick it old school and simple like you can see at the artwork. The next release will be from Michael Knop, who is a young super talented producer from Berlin. His EP will be the most pumping [Clap Your Hands] release so far and it’s the start to more techno oriented releases. Followed by an EP from [MRI & Nhow Nhow]. I’m very flattered because MRI has been one of my heroes from back in the days when I discovered electronic music.


- In recent years, digital format is starting to dominate the scene and many of DJs are shifting toward DJ-ing with PC.
But you have passion for the analog. Could you tell us about the reason behind it?

I’m mostly playing CDs these days, because I still need the feeling to touch the music. I don’t like to stare on a computer. I still would like to play vinyl, because of the passion for this medium. But unfortunately its hard these days, most of the clubs adjust their sound system only to digital music so you don’t have a chance to get to the volume of a digital DJ. Or even the record players, needles are not in a good shape anymore. That’s one reason why we do our I Love Vinyl Open Air every summer. The DJs only play vinyl in a vinyl friendly environment.


- Is there anything particular that you keep in mind when producing music?

Having fun and the dance floor.


-Could you tell us about your studio set up?

My home studio is actually just a computer with Logic, Native Komplete and some speakers. Mostly, I produce my music with Dapayk in his spaceship.


-What do you usually do when you have day off? Is there any hobby you enjoy beside music?

I like to watch American series like Dexter, Californication, Wilfred and a couple of more. Guess you can call me a series junky.


- Is there any artists that you are keeping an eye on?

I’m a big fan of the recent production from Scuba, Psyk, Gary Beck and if it comes to Drum & Bass: Spectrasoul and D-Bridge kill me with every release. As well, the recent favorite on my i Pod is the new Jay Z & Kanye West 『Watching the Throne』 Album.

-Please tell us your up-coming releases and future plan.

A while ago I did a remix for Luna City Express: A digital bonus on their 『Beatman EP』, but after a couple of people asked for a vinyl release, we changed our minds and will release it on our Blank sub label for all the black gold lovers. The next big project is our I Love Vinyl Open Air.


-Last but not least, please give message to your fan in Japan.

今回2回目となる来日ですが、心境の変化は？

-(LENZMAN) 前回の訪問から、音楽面で沢山の変化がおきたと思う。プロデューサーとしてもDJとしてもずいぶん進歩できたと思っている。日本へ戻って、僕が現在取り組んでいる作品を是非披露したいよ。次は日本の他の街も見てみたいな。


今後の展開、及びアルバムについてお聞かせ下さい。

- 今回のアルバムには制作に1年間ほど費やしていて、もうすぐ完成する予定。作品に対する現段階の満足度も高いし、おそらく今までで1番の仕上がりだと思う。今夏を過ぎた当たりに発売される予定だよ。このアルバムにはドラムンベースにじゃない作品も入ってるんだ。


レーベルはたくさんあると思いますが、なぜ[Metalheadz]なんでしょうか？

- [Metalheadz]は音楽的にすごく長い歴史をもっていると思う。僕が90年代にドラムンベースにのめりこんだとき、[Metalheadz]は僕を魅了したレーベルのうちの1つだったし、それ自体がアーティストとして大切な事だったんだ。それに彼らは現在でも重要性を備えている。Goldieは音楽に対する熱い情熱を持っているし、僕はアーティストとして自己表現したいことを自由に表現できる環境を与えられていると実感しているよ。


注目しているニューカマーアーティストを教えて下さい。

- いろんな種類のドラムンベースが好きだから、分け隔てなく演奏するよ。特にCalibre, Makoto, Jubei, Random Movement, Ulterior Motive, Alix PerezやSpectraSoulなどのアーティストが気に入っている。
新人に関しては、Komatic & technicolourやDubPhizix (実際はニューカマーではないけれど、今ものすごく波に乗ってると思う！)

Compered with your first visit to Japan, how have you changed. Any thoughts?
-I think since my last visit to Japan a lot has happend for me musically. I’ve improved a lot as a producer and as a DJ. I am looking forward to coming back and showcasing some of the things I’ve been working. Also I am looking forward to checking out some other cities and seeing a bit more of the country!

Tell us about your new album on Metalheadz and what plans do you have for 2012?
-I’ve been working on this album for about a year and it’s now nearing completion. I’m really happy with what is there so far, I think it’s some of the best work I’ve done. It should be coming out after the summer and it also includes some non-Drum&Bass stuff.

Why did you decide to go with [Metalheadz]?
-I think Metalheadz has got such a lot of history musically. When I got into Drum & Bass in the 90’s they were one of the labels that got me into it and that was important to me as an artist. Also they are still very relevant today. Goldie has such a passion for music and I just feel that I have complete freedom to express what I want as an artist.

You are always get various artists’ dubs, is there anyone that stands out?
-Well I love all kinds of Drum & Bass and play across the board. Some of the artists I love are people like Calibre, Makoto, Jubei, Random Movement, Ulterior Motive, Alix Perez and SpectraSoul. In terms of newcomers, I like people like Komatic & Technicolour, and obviously people like Dub Phizix (not really a newcomer, but he’s smashing it at the moment!)

(English follows) 独特なドライブ感のあるベースラインのトラックに定評があり、今やベルギーの次世代を担うアーティストであろうHermanezが1月27日名古屋、28日に渋谷moduleにやってくる。GWに来日を予定していた公演が延期になり、今回は待望の初来日。[Tronic、Kling Klong]や[Circle Music]、[Monique Musique]などからヒット曲をリリースし、Laurent Garnier、Sven Vath、Christian Smith、Loco DiceなどトップDJから熱いサポートを受け、DJ／トラックメーカーだけでなく現在[Aella Music]をRamon Tapiaと立ち上げるなど勢力的に活動。今や世界が注目する彼のプレイは必見！！そんな多忙な日々を過ごしているHermanezがインタビューを受けてくれた。

15年活動した今でもこの人生を選んだことを全く後悔していません。

- こんにちは。はじめに自己紹介も兼ねて、あなたのこれまでの活動を教えてください。-

Hermanez : こんにちは。HermanezことMichaleです。私は、音楽が大好きで15年前にDJを始めました。エレクトロニックミュージックが盛んなGenkというベルギーの小さな街で育ちました。これまで特別に音楽を勉強したり、レッスンを受けたことはありません。音楽知識はDJを始めてから培い、19歳の時に楽曲制作を勉強し始めました。自分が興味ある”音楽”をやっているので、15年活動した今でもこの人生を選んだことを全く後悔していません。

- ダンスミュージックに興味を持つようになったきっかけは? -

私は音楽がずっと好きで、もう少し何かできないかと常に考えていました。15年前のベルギーのダンスミュージックシーンは素晴らしく、そこで何かをやりたくなりました。

- もっとも印象深かったギグは? -

思い出に残るギグは沢山経験しました。あえて1つ選ぶなら、ベルリンにあるTresorでのクロージングパーティーでプレイしたことです。当初は1時間半プレイする予定でしたが、最終的には７時間、次の日の昼までプレイしました。こんな経験はしたことがなく、イベントの雰囲気はとても良かったです。あれは一生忘れられません。

- 世界中を飛び回ってもっとも刺激を受けることは何ですか? -

新しい場所を訪れると、自分の気持ちが新しくなりDJプレイに磨きがかかる。新しい人達の前で、新しいモチベーションと共に音楽がついてく…それはまるで魔法のように刺激的なことだと思います。

アーティストがファミリーとして一緒に音楽を広めていけるレーベルを立ち上げようと決めました。

- 楽曲制作する際の機材環境を教えてください。また制作時に心掛けていることは? -

私のスタジオには、コンピューターとハードウェアの2つのセクションがあります。DAWはCUBASE 6 を使っていて、もう何年も使っているお気に入りのソフトです。ハードウェアを多く利用するのですが、CUBASEのMIDI機能は素晴らしい！
スタジオで良い時間を過ごすには、その時の気分が影響すると思うのですが…まぁ私の場合はスタジオでの気分がトラック制作に大きな影響を与えますね。

- [Aella Music]のコンセプト、立ち上げた経緯を教えてください。 -

私の周りも含め、現在のシーンには才能のあるアーティストが沢山います。そこで、アーティストがファミリーとして一緒に音楽を広めていけるレーベルを立ち上げようと決めました。

- 今、注目しているアーティストはいますか? -

Alex Costa は素晴らしいですね。また、Alli Boremも良い音楽を制作していて、ビッグチューンをリリースしています。彼らは、[Aella-Music]とも契約しました。

- 今後のリリースやレーベルなどの活動予定についてお聞かせください。 -

2012年3月にNew Yorkの[inmotion]から、そして4月にはドイツの[Trapez LTD]からリリース予定で、とても楽しみにしています。自身のレーベルでは、Deltanoのリリースを予定していて、彼はオリジナルのビッグチューンを2曲製作し、Aella（HermanezとRamon Topiaのコラボレーションプロジェクト）の曲もリミックスしてくれました。後は、Alli Borem、Alex Costaなどのリリースが控えています。是非[Aella Music]のWebサイトで是非チェックしてください。

- 今回、初来日となりますが、日本についての印象や楽しみな事はありますか? -

私の叔父が何年も前に日本を訪れ、日本には文化を含め沢山インスピレーションがあると言っていました。日本のシーンについては、他のアーティストからもとても素晴らしいと聞いています。遠い国に訪れて、自分の好きなことができるのはとても素晴らしいです。初来日をとても楽しみにしています。

- First of all, it’s nice to meet you. Could you introduce yourself and tell us your background? -

I’m Michael aka Hermanez, Started 15 years ago with deejaying because I loved music so much, raised in a small town (genk) in Belgium with lot of electronic activity. Basically I never did some educations or lessons, all my knowledge was based on interests during the years, on the age of 19 I started to learn producing. Also based on own interests, so now 15 years later I don’t regret I ever choose this way of life.

- What got you into dance music in the first place? -

I was always in love with music and wanted a bit more of  it. In first case it was scene that I liked a lot. 15 years ago in Belgium was a great scene, and I just wanted to be part of it.

- What was the most memorable gig you have played so far? -

I played lots of memorable gigs so far, but if I only could give one, then my most memorable gig was  playing the closing at Tresor in Berlin. I supposed to play 1,5 hour my set.. but at the end I played 7 hours till noon. Something like that I never met before and the atmosphere was so nice.. something  for never to forget.

- What kind of inspiration do you gain from going all over the world and play? -

What most people say when they travel a lot is “it more complete”, well in my case, this is also with music. Especially my deejay set went more updated because my feeling was also new on the place I was. The experience was totally on a different way.. the music came among my new feeling in front of new people.. It’s magic!

- Could you tell us about equipment you use for the music production? Also is there anything particular that you keep in mind when producing music? -

My studio set up exist out of 2 sections: the box and hardware section. The daw is cubase 6 and for me my favorite production software for years.. especially for his midi variety. Because I use quite a lot of hardware.
Second thing is, to have a nice time in the studio will depends a lot on your morality. This will guide you almost through your way in building a track.. well for me it does in most cases.

- What is the concept behind [Aella Music] and its background starting this label? -

There are so many new talent in the scene these days, so around me are people doing the same thing. so we decided to start up a label to make it in family way to help us get our music spread.

- Are there any particular artist that you keep your eyes on at the moment? -

There’r some great artistst at the moment doing a great job, Iwatch out on lot of them.. like Alex Costa is doing a great job, also Alli Borem is making and releasing a lot of huge tracks. I signed both on my label [Aella Music].

- Please let us kno your forthcoming release schedule and activities on the label. -

My next releases will be in March on [Inmotion (NY)] and in April on [Trapez LTD (GR)]. Really looking forward for that! Regarding the label we are now focused on the next release from Deltano. He made two massive floor tracks with a remix of “Aella” (duo project of Ramon Tapia and myself) next releases will be from Alli Borem, Alex Costa,  and some more to confirm soon.

- This will be your first time ever appearance in Japan. What is your impression? Do you have something particular you’re looking for?  -

My uncle has been in Japan many years ago, he told me lots of  inspiring things about the country and the culture, these days I hear and see many good things about the scene and appreciation in music at lot of places in Japan.. it’s very nice to get invited so far away from home and do the thing I like most. ! So exciting to see Japan for the first time!!
